Luka Doncic opened up about his training program this offseason in Croatia

Before he was drafted into the NBA, Luka Doncic had professional experience overseas. He was already a polished player when he entered the league. That’s why Doncic had instant success in the NBA.

However, the All-NBA PG has been criticized over the years for his lack of preparation in the offseason. Specifically, conditioning and taking care of his body. It’s partly why Dallas GM Nico Harrison traded Doncic to the Lakers. In his first offseason with Los Angeles, Doncic is taking his body to another level. Fans should be excited about the serious changes Doncic has made.

For the first time in his career, Luka Doncic is taking conditioning seriously

Every offseason, there is a star player who claims to be in the “best shape of their life.” Lakers’ Luka Doncic didn’t say those exact words, but he did talk about his offseason transformation. The star PG spoke with Men’s Health magazine in an interview.  Doncic told them, “Just visually, I would say my whole body looks better.”

Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Luka is working out in Croatia. He’s reportedly on a “gluten-free, low-sugar diet.” The five-time all-star is working out with his fitness team to help reach his goals. Something flipped for Doncic this offseason. It was likely the blockbuster trade that landed Doncic in LA. The 26-year-old PG likely thought he would play in Dallas his entire career.

However, Mavericks GM Nico Harrison cited Doncic’s lack of conditioning as part of the reason why he was traded. This had to change Doncic’s mindset this offseason. He was Dallas’ franchise payer, and they traded him away. Taking his conditioning and offseason preparation seriously was the next step for Doncic to reach his true potential. He’s been an MVP candidate recently and can continue that with the Lakers.

Luka Doncic told Men’s Health that he’s focused on his conditioning, rather than athleticism. Being a freak-athlete has never been a strength for Doncic. He’s a PG who plays at his own pace and can dictate the defense. Adding speed and quickness to his game will only improve his overall production. The Lakers are happy to see Doncic taking his conditioning to another level. How many games will Los Angeles win in 2025-26?
