Penn 57, Navy 46

Tony Hicks scored a game-high 14 points and Darien Nelson-Henry added 11 points and 10 rebounds as visiting Penn posted its first win of the season with a 57-46 victory over Navy on Wednesday night at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md.

Penn (1-5) snapped a six-game losing streak dating to last year. Navy (2-6) has dropped two in a row after winning two straight.

Hicks, a guard, scored five points during a 15-4 first-half run that gave the Quakers a 27-14 lead. In addition, he got assists on both of forward Sam Jones’ 3-pointers during that stretch, which put Penn in command.

Forward Edward Alade and guard Zach Fong each scored eight points to lead Navy as the Midshipmen continued having problems on offense.

Navy scored just one basket in the final 5:25 after guard Brandon Venturini hit a 3-pointer that cut the lead to 52-44. The Midshipmen missed nine of their final 10 shots from the field.

Poor shooting hurt Navy from the field and the foul line throughout the game. Navy made just 18 of 53 from the floor (34 percent) and only 5 of 13 (39 percent) from the line.

Both teams play road games on Saturday. Penn heads to Binghamton and Navy goes to The Citadel.
