Phoenix’s Jalen Green will miss opening night due to a hamstring injury

This past offseason, the Suns were involved in a massive deal. Phoenix traded two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant to the Rockets. In return, the Suns received Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and draft capital. It was part of a seven-team trade.
Ahead of the 2025-26 season, one key player is dealing with an injury. First-year Suns guard Jalen Green has a lingering knee injury one week before their first game. Suns head coach Jordan Ott spoke with reporters on Tuesday and noted that Green will not be available for opening night. Phoenix hosts the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, October 22.

Suns head coach Jordan Ott reported that Jalen Green suffered a “low-grade hamstring strain” during traning camp. The injury lingered into the preseason, and Green attempted to play through the discomfort. Ott believes his SG might have re-aggravated the injury during one of their matchups in China vs. the Brooklyn Nets. On Tuesday, Jordan Ott told the media that Jalen Green will not be available for their first game of the season.
The 23-year-old will be re-evaluated in 10 days. During his 2024-25 campaign for the Rockets, Jalen Green started and played in all 82 games. It was Green’s second consecutive season playing all 82 games. That will not be the case for his start with Phoenix. However, Jalen Green’s hamstring injury is minor. Suns’ fans shouldn’t be worried about Green being out for a lengthy period of time.
Suns coach Jordan Ott on Jalen Green reaggravating his left hamstring strain in China: “We all know the soft tissue injuries are really hard to see exactly the progress,” Ott said. “Obviously it’s frustrating, but this is all part of it. Last season, Green averaged 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Additionally, Green was playing 32.9 minutes per game for the Rockets. With a chance to acquire Kevin Durant this offseaosn, Phoenix went all in. They traded away key players in Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks. While Green misses the start of 2025-26, veteran Grayson Allen will likely start at SG.
Allen is set to enter his 8th professional season and third with the Suns. Over two years, the veteran guard has played in 139 games and made 81 starts for Phoenix. Grayson Allen started 74 games for the Suns during his 2023-24 campaign. The Suns’ lineup will eagerly wait for Jalen Green to be at full strength and make his debut for Phoenix. Until then, the young SG will rest and recover as he is dealing with a minor hamstring strain.
