Lakers’ Luka Doncic has the third-most points through the first five games of season in NBA history
Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers were at home on Wednesday evening to face the San Antonio Spurs. It was not an easy matchup for the Lakers. Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs have a talented roster.
It was a back-and-forth game between the Lakers and Spurs on Wednesday. San Antonio had a 96-88 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the heroics of Luka Doncic helped the Lakers win. They beat the Spurs 118-116 for their fifth consecutive victory. Doncic finished the game with 35 points, nine rebounds, 13 assists, five steals, and two blocks. Through his first five games in 2025-26, Doncic has scored 200 total points for the Lakers. That is the third-most points for any player in league history through the first five games of the season.

Early in the 2025-26 season, the Lakers have been without the services of 21-time all-star LeBron James. He is currently sidelined with sciatica on his right side, affecting his lower back and leg. While James has been out, the Lakers have relied on Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves to lead the way. Through his first five games of the season, Luka Doncic is averaging 40.0 points per game.
Additionally, Doncic has recorded 200 total points for Los Angeles. That is the third-most points by any player through the first five games of the season. He passed Michael Jordan’s 197 points through the first five games of the 1986 season. The only player ahead of Luka Doncic is the great Wilt Chamberlain. He’s had 200+ points through the first five games of the season twice in his historic career. Chamberlain had 256 points in 1961 and 264 points in 1962.

Luka Doncic had 43+ points in each of his first three games to start the 2025-26 season. He followed that up with 29 points on Sunday and 35 on Wednesday evening. It’s been an impressive start to the season for the 26-year-old. When LeBron James returns, he’ll be a key piece of the Lakers’ roster. However, Luka Doncic is their top player and one the franchise will continue to build around.
After their fifth straight win on Wednesday, the Lakers are 7-2 to begin the season. They are currently second in the Western Conference and only one game behind the Thunder. Starting on November 8, the Lakers will begin a five-game road trip. They will be on the road in Atlanta on Saturday to face the Hawks. Can Luka Doncic continue his incredible production for the Lakers and lead them to a sixth-straight win?
