Dallas Mavericks Nico Harrison Meets With Aaron Rodgers In Steelers Training Camp

Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison was spotted at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp with quarterback Aaron Rodgers among others.

Harrison returned to Pennsylvania a year after he and Mavs head coach Jason Kidd ventured up north to exchange ideas with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

Mavericks’ Nico Harrison Visited Steelers Training Camp To Talk Hoops

LeVelle Moton, the head men’s basketball coach at North Carolina Central, posted a picture on his social media account of himself, Harrison, Rodgers, and College of Charleston assistant basketball coach Jeff McInnis having lunch at Steelers camp.

Tomlin also posted a picture on Instagram with Harrison, Moton, and McInnis captioned, “Loved sharing ideas and talking hoops with these guys. Always a pleasure to have them at camp.”

However, unlike last year, Kidd was unable to visit Steelers camp this time around.

“As a coach, you always want to get better, and when you talk about the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tomlin is the best,” Kidd told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last year.

Harrison May Have Redeemed Himself With Cooper Flagg

Harrison is coming off a disappointing, tumultuous NBA season in which he traded a generational superstar in Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.

Despite receiving tons of fan backlash, the Mavericks were able to select No. 1 overall prospect Cooper Flagg in the 2025 NBA draft after the team shockingly won the NBA lottery.

This ultimately breathed new life into what could have been a gloomy Harrison era.

Meanwhile, the Steelers signed four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers this NFL offseason after spending 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and two with the New York Jets.

The Steelers have not appeared in the Super Bowl since 2011 and have not won a playoff game since 2017. Pittsburgh has been a mediocre club since two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retired.

Mavericks, Steelers Are Depending On Older Stars

Tomlin must now rely on a 41-year-old Rodgers, while Harrison is rolling the dice on an injury-prone, 32-year-old Davis.

Rodgers hasn’t won a championship since 2011, when the Packers defeated Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV. Davis, of course, also hasn’t won a ring since his days with the Lakers in the 2020 Orlando Bubble.

Neither basketball nor football comes down to a single player, but a team having a superstar or two definitely helps.

Quarterback is the most important position in football, and one could argue that having young talent is imperative to build a championship-caliber roster in both the NBA and NFL.
