Mavs’ Anthony Davis (calf strain) will miss at least another seven to ten days

Cooper Flagg and the Mavericks picked up a much-needed win on Sunday. Dallas beat Portland 138-133 in OT. The team is now 4-10 this season and 3-7 in their last 10 games.

On Saturday evening, NBA insider Shams Charania gave an injury update on one of the team’s top players. Including Sunday’s contest, Anthony Davis has missed nine consecutive games due to injury. The one-time NBA champion is dealing with a calf strain. Charania reported that Anthony Davis will miss at least seven to ten more days.

When will Anthony Davis return to the starting lineup?

The Luka Doncic trade continues to be incredibly lopsided for the Mavericks. Last season, former general manager Nico Harrison traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. In return, the Mvaericks received Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick. Far less than what Doncic’s true value was. Since Davis was traded to Dallas, the veteran forward has appeared in just 14 games. That includes the second half of the 2024-25 season and the start of the 2025-26 season.

Anthony Davis started the first five games of the 2025-26 season for the Mavericks. Since then, he’s missed nine consecutive games due to a calf strain. Over the weekend, Davis was evaluated by the medical staff. They determined that the 32-year-old will miss at least another 7 to 10 days due to injury. Davis originally had November 8 as his return date, but owner Patrick Dumont wanted him to wait.

Dumont has a meeting with Davis’s agent and the medical staff. He made it clear he would now allow Davis to return until he was fully cleared. Patrick Dumont is trying to prevent Davis from returning too quickly and risking further injury. There is a legitimate concern that Anthony Davis could rupture his Achilles tendon if he tried to rush back. Dallas cannot afford for Davis to miss nearly all of the 2025=26 season.

When Anthony Davis arrived in Dallas at the trade deadline in 2024-25, he was dealing with an abdominal injury. He attempted to make a comeback and reaggravated his abdominal injury. That forced Davis to miss 18 consecutive games, and he only played nine last year for Dallas. Owner Patrick Dumont doesn’t want to risk Davis missing significant time. That’s why he is taking control of Davis’ recovery timeline. Davis will miss at least another seven to ten days for the Mavs.
